Ozepic may be adding a few spring to your step – but it can also be taking a bite from your smile.
As the popularity of weight loss medication increases, a new concern is emerging: “Ozepic teeth”.
The term refers to a number of dental issues that users have reported to experience, such as dry mouth, bad breath, gum disease and tooth decay.
These medicines suppress the appetite – as eating normally stimulates the flow of saliva, eating less can mean less stimulation to the salivary glands, which can cause issues.
“Anecdotal reports suggest that ozepic drugs and the like for weight loss can cause dry mouth,” said cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Michele Green for the Daily Mail.
“Ozepic can reduce saliva production, reducing the natural ability of the mouth to brush your teeth.”

“Saliva is essential for tooth protection, as it helps remove food particles, neutralizes acids produced by bacteria in the mouth and provides essential minerals that strengthen tooth enamel,” Green told the Daily Mail.
“When salivary levels are insufficient, the risk of cavity and tooth decay increases significantly.”
Moreover, research shows that some of the most common side effects of GLP-1 are nausea, diarrhea and vomiting that can also pose some dental problems.
“The stomach is very acidic, and if patients have the acid to come out in their mouth, then it is really harmful to the teeth,” Dr. Victoria Holden told The Independent.
