Miley Cyrus’ ‘Brutal Infection’ has doctors discussing possible causes

After filming a music video at Hollywood Walk of Fame, Miley Cyrus said she was hospitalized recently with a knee infection, making doctors weigh on how some environments can expose people to harmful bacteria.

In an episode of Thursday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, Cyrus, 32, recalled the moment she filmed her visual album “Something Beautiful” and then landed in ICU.

“I filmed this video in October [2024] By November in Thanksgiving, I went to ICU for a moment – just for a moment, ”the singer said.

Cyrus described her to roll on the sidewalk as part of her shoot, and shortly thereafter, she developed symptoms that required intense medical care.

“I caught something,” she noted. “My foot started to disintegrate … around the knee area. And then the doctor goes,” Do you have any idea why you would have such a brutal infection on your knees? “”

While the singer did not reveal a specific diagnosis, medical experts say her issue is a reminder of how daily public spaces can pose hidden health risks.

Dr. Marc Siegel, Clinical Professor of Medicine at the NYU Langone Medical Center and senior Fox News Medical Analyst, noted that extremely aggressive bacteria are not common in urban environments.

“Bacteria that eat meat on the streets of the city are very rare,” Siegel told him, who did not treat Kiri for the Fox News Digital. “Mouse urine can cause leptospirosis, a bacteria that causes flu -like symptoms.”

The doctor said he believes the potential cause was a more typical bacterial infection than something exotic, although common bacteria can cause serious skin reactions.

“Strape or staff bacteria are common causes of skin infection such as cellulite,” Siegel said. “Bacteria can be found [on streets]like E. Coli, Shigella and Enterococci, which are from fecal matter, and can be inserted into the bottom of the shoe, ”he added.

These infections do not usually stem from the road itself, the doctor said, but can develop when the skin comes into contact with bacteria, which can occur during narrow exposure to the surface such as sidewalks.

The risk of infection often increases when the skin breaks or irritates, allowing bacteria to get into the body more easily.

Even small cuts and scraps can become ports for infection when exposed to contaminated surfaces, according to Dr. Ken Perry, an Emergency Medicine doctor in Charleston, South Carolina.

“For most patients, these infections are contracted by open skin wounds or any other violations of the skin barrier,” told Perry Perry, who also did not treat Cyrus, for Fox News Digital.

Such infections are usually easily treated with common antibiotics, according to the doctor.

Cyrus’s glue placed it in close contact with one of the most loaded sidewalks in the country, which doctors say may increase the risk.

“In the case of Miley Cyrus, she states that she contracted this after she entered the ground during the filming of her music video,” Perry said.

“Foot traffic can easily contaminate the area with bacteria from animal or even human resources,” he hypothesized.

“For most of the population, roll in Hollywood Walk of Fame is not common behavior, but even casual interaction could come an individual in contact with harmful bacteria,” Perry added.

Hygiene as the first line of protection

Doctors agree that basic hygiene is one of the best ways to avoid infection, especially in public spaces.

“The best way to keep this not happen is to be fast with hygiene,” Perry said.

“We know how to wash our hands after being in public not to allow the transfer of bacteria to the mucus membranes of our eyes, or even consume bacteria.”

Experts recommend covering wounds and washing them as soon as possible if exposed to public environments.

“If cutting or fragmentation occurs while you are in public, be sure to wash with soap and water,” Perry advised. “If an individual has a cut or any fracture on the skin, it is best to keep it covered, especially when it is in public.”

It is important to seek medical attention if there are signs of redness, swelling or drainage, as these can be signs of a worsening bacterial infection, the doctor warned.
