SPF nation? A new study shows that we are failing to protect the skin, unless we are on vacation.
The survey of 2,000 US adults discovered less than half (41%) wearing sun cream more than 60 days a year – a majority wears it for less than one fifth of the entire calendar year.
Thirteen percent do not usually wear sunlight.
However, seven in 10 claimed to have a good sun routine is important to them.
The source of mismatch can be based on whether people are on vacation.
Four to 10 care better about their skin when they travel than when they are at home, and nearly half (48%) said sunlight is the first product they include in holiday care routines.
Commanded by the Melanoma Research Alliance and carried out by Talker Research, the study revealed why it is seemingly easier for people to take better care of their skin during the holidays: for 36%, it is more relaxing and they have more time to do it.
For 34%, they are more exposed to the sun on vacation than when they are at home (six hours a day, compared to five, on average).
An additional 26% said it is simply easier to remember to apply sun cream on holiday than when they are at home.
The sun was found that it was often applied to the face (78%), arms (71%) and feet (62%). But areas like hair line (19%), lips (19%) and eyelids (14%) were less likely to have applied SPF.
And while the preferences go, 52% said they prefer a lotion formula for their SPF, against 39% who prefer a spray or aerosol option.
Respondents also like that their SPF formula be clear (26%) instead of white (12%) or dyed (5%).
Only 1% noted that they prefer chemical sun creams, however, users may not realize that it is the common term for non -mineral sun creams.
“Whether you are on vacation or at home, it is just as important to integrate SPF into your daily skin routine,” said Dr. Marc Hurlbert, CEO of the Melanoma Research Alliance. “Remembering to wear sun cream on the beach or while outside on a hot day can be easy, but they are those intricate, less expected exposures like when traveling on a plane or car when sitting next to a window in your home, or when skiing or snow on trips that people do not think.
The study also found that people tend to use a lower SPF while at home than on vacation.
While 55% of people wear at least SPF 30 or higher on vacation, only 44% do the same in their daily lives.
And being a parent has some of its influences on the Suncare routines.
Parents were a little more likely to take better care of their skin while on vacation than at home.
And 71% admitted that they are more vigilant for applying the sun for their children than for themselves.
Four of the five parents make sure their children understand the importance of protecting their skin from the sun – vacation or not.
The surveyed parents said they would trust their child to apply the Sun screen correctly for themselves until the age of 12, and 71% would entrust their children to come to the sun screen without remembering to do so.
“As SPF grows, your relative protection from sunburn also increases. A sun cream labeled as SPF 15 will protect your skin from about 93% of UVB rays and SPF 30 blocks about 97%.
The higher the SPF, the more protection offers up to SPF 50.
That is why we recommend a lot for everyone to wear SPF 30+ every day, ”Hurlbert said.
