Eating only a small part of this healthy snack a day can remove a frightening syndrome affecting a whip in three Americans, according to a new study in Nutrition Research magazine.

Metabolic syndrome is a set of conditions that includes at least three of the following: high blood pressure, high blood sugar, elevated triglycerides, poor HDL cholesterol and excess abdominal fat.

People who have metabolic syndrome are at an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and heart disease – and recent studies have even linked to the conditions with poor cognitive health and health.

“The evidence suggests that people with metabolic syndrome are three times more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke and twice as likely to die from coronary heart disease compared to people without this condition,” said study author Emily Ho, director of the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University.

“Poor diet and inactivity contribute to the development of metabolic syndrome, and intestinal health and chronic inflammation can also play roles.”

Fortunately, the study found that the consumption of 2 daily almond ounces – approximately 45 nuts – translated into considerable points in total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and waist circumference.

In a 12-week clinical test, researchers analyzed the data of two groups of people 35 to 60 years old with metabolic syndrome.

One group ate 320 calories worth almonds daily, while the other group had 320 calories worth crackers.

As expected, blood works showed that the almond group had much higher levels of vitamin E – an antioxidant that soothes inflammation and supports heart, nerve and muscle health.

The findings match previous studies that require the health benefits of this popular walnut.

A 2023 study found that eating a handful of nuts a day can reduce the risk of heart disease by up to 25%.

Some research has shown that tonsils can help fight wrinkles, no less because only 1 ounce almond provides about 50% of the recommended daily consumption for vitamin E.

And a study outside Spain suggests eating 30 grams of nuts daily can help reduce the risk of depression in adults.
