The “Sspectacular” temple dedicated to the ancient Greek god discovered by archaeologists: 2,700-year-old treasures found

Archaeologists have discovered an ancient “spectacular” temple that houses hundreds of statues dedicated to the Greek god Apollo.

The area, known as Apollo’s Sanctuary, is located in a remote valley in Cyprus, and the discovered objects are believed to date from 2,700 years.

A team of German experts initially began digging in the area in 2021, with their four -year -old excavation findings unveiled in a statement from the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus.

Sanctuary of Apollo was first discovered by German archaeologist Max Ohnefalsch-Richter in 1885, and “was considered one of the most spectacular findings of her time.”

However, after his “inappropriate” excavations, Ohnefalsch-Richter rebuilt the site, making its exact location forgotten for more than a century.

In 2021, the new team of German archaeologists rediscovered the long lost temple in the remote Frangrissa valley, near the ancient city of Tamassos.

After conducting a wider examination of the site, they discovered treasures that were initially overlooked, including fragments of colossal statues, parts of which seemed to be legs.
