NYU Langone Health Launch of Women’s Health 60 million

Philanthropy Allison Mignone has turned its triple negative diagnosis of breast cancer in a positive development for women’s health.

Mignone and her husband, Roberto, donated $ 50 million to convert the NYU Langone East 53RD outpatient care center on Mignone Road in Women’s Health Cooperation.

Griffin Healthspan and the center of vitality will open on the second floor thanks to a $ 10 million gift from Citadel Ken Griffin founder. Work is set to start next year.

“My vision is for women to be seen,” Mignone the Post told.

“Many times, we are not honest about what we are experiencing. We are hasty, we are overlooked,” she added. “I really wanted to help build something that changes it, whether you are entering for a routine check or navigating a terrible diagnosis or just asking questions about your health.”

Joan H. Tisch Center for Women’s Health, which opened in 2011, will be part of the new cooperation.

The initiative unites 125 expert providers in the 20 main areas of women’s health, including preventive care, pregnancy support, medium -lived health and fibroid treatment.

“You will take care that is holistic, not silent,” Mignone said.

For her part, Mignone learned three years ago that she had triple negative breast cancer, an aggressive disease characterized by the absence of three main receptors, limiting treatment options.

Surgical oncologist NYU Langone Dr. Deborah Axelrod removed cancer from Mignone’s right chest. At the same time, cosmetic plastic surgeon and breast Mihye Choi reduced the size of her left breast in order to match.

“It was really that transformative diagnosis of cancer that changed me,” Mignone said.

“I felt so lucky in my life because I had these resources, these amazing doctors, my family to support me, friends,” she continued, “and realized that there are many other women who do not have that kind of support, they do not have a clear plan, they do not take holistic care, and that’s not right.”

Patients can expect advanced images, MRI for muscle/fat composition, life expectancy and cancer and registration in clinical studies if they are at high risk.

Griffin Healthspan and the center of vitality will emphasize ways women can stay active and healthy while aging, food exercise, wellness class and custody therapy of stress, trauma and combustion among other services.

“For so long, women have wanted to feel careful as whole people go to the feet, and in this environment, we are finally doing it,” the post told Dr. Elizabeth Comen, breast oncologist and cooperative co -director.

“We will actually learn women how to exercise, how to raise weights properly, how 4 ounces of chicken look like, compared to just saying,” Limit the amount of carbs you eat or limit the amount of fats you eat, “she added.

Cooperation will also help create new subjects for women’s health at the NYU Grossman Medical School, examining ways to better serve women.

Women’s health needs have been neglected historically, leading to delayed or lost diagnoses, inadequate treatment and poorer health results.

“Generationdo for women’s generation deserves to live a longer and healthier life than those who came before him, and that is my goal,” Mignone said.

A mother of four daughters, Mignone is a member of the NYU Langone supervisor board, an advisory board. Roberto A. Mignone, the founder and President of Bridger Management LLC, is vice president of the trusted NYU Langone board.
